Shopping, with Tiwa

The door leads out into a shaded courtyard paved with pale red stones. Two sides of the courtyard is created by the house, the third a stable and the fourth the gate into the outside city. A tall tree with wide, flat, pale yellow leaves is in the center, its roots woven into nooks to sit in. Laruna sits on one of the roots, her fingers criss-crossing a cats-cradle game while next to her stood a man about hers and Alec's age. He has short curly auburn hair on a round face with hazel eyes. He could be nice looking except for the rather unpleasant smirk on his face. He's nuts eating from a small bag, from which Laruna occasionally snags some from.

The air is crisp with the tang of just started spring. Tall mountains cusp the surrounding view with white finger tips. Two moons hang like wisps of clouds in the sky, barely visible. The house is a two story cream colored building with a rooftop that came to a sharp point to prevent snow for clinging on to it. Glass panes protected the windows and are nudged open just a bit to let the fresh air in.

It is a rather pleasant day, all in all.

"Oh that's quick, sweet."

Smiling, Meeli said, "I do pride myself on my work."

Laruna meanwhile had slipped outside to bring Jono in.

Tiwa beams and hugs Meeli, "Thank you."

The woman pats her lightly, rather surprised. "You're welcome dear."

When she's let go, she pulls out a chit and offers it to Jono who signs it without looking.

He looks surprisingly cheerful at it.

The beaming gets turned first to Jono and then to Laruna,

"What next?"

"The Marketplace!" Laruna announced. "Where's Alec?"

"He went to go get something to eat. He didn't want my nuts."

"No, just other parts of you." Laruna smirked.

"I thought he already had your nuts."

Tiwa adds as she comes out the shop and tweaks Jono's nose.

The conversation isn't going to be helped any as Alec comes into view chewing on a piece of candied dough on a stick. Laruna takes one look at him and starts laughing.

"What?" Alec asks, confused.

"Just talking about how Jono has your nuts."

The face Alec makes is priceless and he takes a long look at his food before shaking his head. "I hate you all."

Tiwa just starts laughing, this is too easy.

"Seriously. I hate you all. With the burning depth of a thousand fiery suns."

"That's fine," Laruna said, ruffling his hair. "Tiwa and I are going to go look at shinnies. You and Jono can go play with your male genital metaphors."

"Or just with the actual ones, probably make you happier. Ooh shinies."

She just grins over her shoulder as she follows the call of the shiny.

The two boys just sort of stare at them as Laruna leads her off.

The marketplace is truly that. There are hundreds of booths set up in neat rows. It's one of those places filled with the strange spices that twitch the nose, the clamor of people shouting how wonderful their wares were, fine weapons glinted in the sunlight, furs hung over racks and tables were spread with jewelery of all sorts.

Tiwa is drawn to the shiniest stuff and follows the glint of light on things, she's more bird here than she is elsewhere.

And there are shiny stuff! Glass sculptures seem to be popular as are polished stone with scenes in them. The scenes are made by changing the minerals in the stone itself. And of course there is the jewelery.

Strings of stones to put in the hair, pendents made of glass and wood or silver. Bracelets, arm bands, rings. Every sort. A popular sort is paired bracelets with circles on them.

She's having a hard time knowing where to look since its all so beautiful.

No one seems to mind. Laruna drifts from booth to booth keeping an eye on the Tiwa. It's a strange city after all. Jono seems to be cajoling Alec into getting a new earring.

So far no one's bumped into her since Tiwa's good at slipping into small spaces and not letting anyone hit her.

She finds one booth full of crystals, sculpture and jewelery and doesn't move since the light through them is far too beautiful.

Alec siddles up next to her. "You'd take the entire thing home wouldn't you?"

Behind him, Jono rests his head on Alec's shoulder, arms around his waist. "I'm not paying for all of that."

At his voice she turns but her look is more bird than girl,

"Yes, Mum would be mad but they're so pretty."

"That's right. Listen to your mum," Jono encourages. He reaches out and picks up one of a pair of bracelets, this one silver with quartz circles.

"Put that down!" Alec cries, slapping Jono's wrist.

That gets her looking over,

"The silver or the quartz?"

"The entire thing! Put it down." He snags it from Jono and puts it back next to its pair.

Jono sighed. "You're no fun."

Alec gets a surprise hug from Tiwa,

"You should pick something out that you like and help me find something."
