Shopping, with Tiwa

The door leads out into a shaded courtyard paved with pale red stones. Two sides of the courtyard is created by the house, the third a stable and the fourth the gate into the outside city. A tall tree with wide, flat, pale yellow leaves is in the center, its roots woven into nooks to sit in. Laruna sits on one of the roots, her fingers criss-crossing a cats-cradle game while next to her stood a man about hers and Alec's age. He has short curly auburn hair on a round face with hazel eyes. He could be nice looking except for the rather unpleasant smirk on his face. He's nuts eating from a small bag, from which Laruna occasionally snags some from.

The air is crisp with the tang of just started spring. Tall mountains cusp the surrounding view with white finger tips. Two moons hang like wisps of clouds in the sky, barely visible. The house is a two story cream colored building with a rooftop that came to a sharp point to prevent snow for clinging on to it. Glass panes protected the windows and are nudged open just a bit to let the fresh air in.

It is a rather pleasant day, all in all.

Jono rolls his eyes and mutters something about "girls". He does buy it, however.

"Do you want the necklace?"

"Which one?"

She giggles and grins at Laruna, they win.

Laruna grins back.

"The flower one?"

"Yeah, did you see if there were earrings too?"

Turning back to the booth with the necklace, Laruna checked. "They do!" she called.

"Sweet, did you find anything you liked?"

She held up her bag, something clinkings. "Oh, I did. Some beads for my hair."

"Which I did not pay for," Jono said as he gave the woman at the booth a small chit.

"Nice, you've got great hair to do stuff with."

She pats her hair. "Thank you. We could do your hair too."

"That might be pretty. So anywhere we should go?"

"We should get Alec," Jono said looking around for the missing member of their party. "Then maybe food? I'm starved."

"Not enough nuts for you?"

"He wants his sausage and oh yeah food would be good."

Fortunately when Alec joins them, he's not munching on anything phallic. "We're eating?"

"Yes," Jono said. "Jackies?"

"Why did you suggest that! It's so... mundane."

[piwakawaka]

"Where do you want to go, Alec?"

He stares up at the sky. "Let's go to the Shades."

Laruna frowns. "We're not dressed for that."

"Who cares!" Jono said. "I have a table."

"What's the Shades?"

Laruna put an arm around Tiwa's shoulders. "One of the nicest places you can go for food. They import sea food! And seeing as how we're in the middle of the mountains, you can guess what I mean."

"Oh yeah, the sea's always close by at home, I forget other people have to work to get it."

"Lucky," she sighs. "I love seafood. Well, come on, let's get food." She starts walking back into the city proper. Behind her, Jono stuffs the necklace he bought into a pouch before taking Alec's hand.

"Then I'll just have to show you Wellington sometime and we can have lunch on the waterfront."

Laruna makes an 'oo' noise. "Wellington. That sounds exotic. Alec and I didn't see the ocean for the first time until we were... fifteen, I think it was. Jono's never seen it."

"Jono," Jono adds. "Has never left the city."

"That's not right, wind's best near the water. Then Jono has to come along too, I'll show you all the best places."

"Jono," he continues speaking in third person, "Is not allowed to leave the city. An Oracle's duty is to his people."

"If you go through Milliways, you're not technically leaving."

"This is true," Alec says. Jono looks thoughtful about this. Despite his constant complaining and antagonizing he does take his duties seriously. Sort of.

"Maybe," he allows.
