Alec stood in front of the Inn idly picking at the embrodiary of his jacket as he waited for Mel to show up. It was a brilliant red jacket with phoenixes embrodiered on the cuffs and sleeves and reminded him way too much of the jacket that Lorac had gotten him. It wasn't the same. The cut was different, more for this time's style than Lorac's time and so was the fabric. The phoenixes weren't even the same. But still, it reminded him of Lorac. He wore the jacket because it was his offical jacket. The one that said, "Hello, I'm a Troven, and better than the lot of you." That and the respectable shirt (a pale gray with embrodired geometric designs) and pants with clean boots instead of his usall tromping around everywhere boots, he actually did look decent, instead of scruffy.

"Oo, that might be fun." she grins. Mel is in good spirits, and is seeing a lot of pretty things today.

Alec leads Mel over to where a nervous looking carrot haired man was standing. The man looked to be in his fourties and he wore his hair short with a mustache. He's dressed in stately looking robes that seem just a bit too ill fitting. He looked at Alec and then at Mel and then at Alec again.

"This is Mel, she's a friend. I told her that she could come for the tour," Alec said brightly. "Mel, this is Councilor Zaltar, head of the fire wizards."

Melinda nearly giggles. Let the 'We didn't say you could bring anybody along!' fight begin. "Hullo."

Zaltar stared at Mel. "You... you are from... one of the place he goes?" he asks, sounding polite and yet at the same time completely disaproving.

Alec rolled his eyes. It was always nice to be talked about as if you weren't there.

Melinda smiles. "Yes." Smile! "Is there any problem with that, sir?" all polite and nice. Mel could be a bitch when she wanted to be.

Zaltar's face gave a twitch. Alec knew that twitch very well. He was the cause of the twitch. Once a long time ago, Zaltar wasn't a nervous man. Then Alec enrolled in school. "It is... unusual..." he allowed.

Melinda gives him a sweet smile. "Oh?"

"And we shall be seeing into sensative matters... not for the likes of casual visitors," Zaltar said, feeling like he was getting somewhere.

Alec got a shifty eyed look on his face. "But you didn't saaaaay that."

"Oh?" there's that smile. Also, a glint in her eye. Worst comes to worst, she'll wibble.

"Yes." Zaltar's hit his stride now, "For while I'm sure you're a very nice young woman... you are a woman aren't you?" he paused confused for a second, "But you can't expect us to divulge secrets to someone who we don't even know, do you?"

Melinda goes pale. "If the dress isn't enough to give a good hint as to my gender, then I do believe you need to get your eyes healed and depromoted. Gods know what else might get through under your eyes, and it might be more hazardous than somebody who just wants to see the city." Her voice is sharp, almost like a scaple. Probing, careful, and watching.

Zaltar looked at her with wide eyed astonishment. "You, young lady, need to have some manners taught to you. That is no way to treat elders of any sort."

"I already have. And I treat most of my elders well, except when they ask stupid questions." Smile! Melinda is a bitch. She's also considering using her Voice to make him forget everything about this, and then have him show them around without any complaints.

Zaltar seems unphased. He's seen children throw fits before. He does what he always does, ignore them and turns to Alec, who at least is nominally an adult.

"As I have more important things to do, here is the list of places to go and what you should look for. It's rather short, so it shouldn't take you too long and you shouldn't make too much of a mess of it."
