(RP with Mel.)

Alec stood in front of the Inn idly picking at the embrodiary of his jacket as he waited for Mel to show up. It was a brilliant red jacket with phoenixes embrodiered on the cuffs and sleeves and reminded him way too much of the jacket that Lorac had gotten him. It wasn't the same. The cut was different, more for this time's style than Lorac's time and so was the fabric. The phoenixes weren't even the same. But still, it reminded him of Lorac. He wore the jacket because it was his offical jacket. The one that said, "Hello, I'm a Troven, and better than the lot of you." That and the respectable shirt (a pale gray with embrodired geometric designs) and pants with clean boots instead of his usall tromping around everywhere boots, he actually did look decent, instead of scruffy.

"We'll make a rider out of you yet."

He turned off the path and goes to the left onto a smaller path. He reins his horse in for a second, "Portal's here." He then kneed the horse forward and after a few steps vanished. The air where he vanished rippled like water getting disturbed.

She'd ridden a horse before, but it'd been ages. "I hope so." she muses. Following after Alec, she grins. This'll be fun. "See you on the other side!" she called, and went after him.

The other side is a forest. It's in a rocky area, so the trees are rather thinly spread. They're old and gnarled, looking like pine trees, but the scent isn't quite pine. Alec was waiting a head. In front of him was a road. It was mostly smooth, but there were still ruts in the ground and it was unpaved, wide enough for two large wagons to pass each other easily. It steadily rose up at a gentle slope. Seeing that Mel made it through okay, he pointed out the road. "This used to be a river bed. But we ... well my ancestors, diverted the river when they drained the lake that hid the valley we're going to. From there they built the city at the mouth of the valley. The mountains we're in are called the Dragonride Mountains. They span from the sea out east for thousands of ... um miles, dividing the continant in half. We're about a month's ride from the ocean, west and a day's ride from the foot of the mountains, south."

Looking around as she comes out the other side, her eyes go wide. Whoa. "Oh, cool. The city is built on the mountains?" she asks, looking around. It's different. Sisu flaps his wings a bit, wondering what happened.

"In the mountains. In a valley," Alec corrected. "We didn't build on the mountains.. except for a guard outpost."

He set his horse to a walk up the road. Trees over reached it blocking most of the view ahead and above, but the sun was able to shine its way through in a few spots, cutting through like a knife.

"Oh, okay." she says, watching everywhere. Melinda trailed after him. Sisu decided to flap a little bit, and hopped off, following them in the air. "Can he do that?" Melinda asks, watching the little lizard flying close to them.

Alec looked back and smiled, "Sure. It's good for him to stretch his wings like that. And he can always find you, so you never have to worry about him getting lost."

The trees broke a head of them and a large pale yellow wall that seemed to glisten. The wall was centered in a v where two mountians met, and crept up into each moutain side. A double doored gate made of bronze hung open, allowing the road to pass through. Guards with pikes watched the few travelers go into the city. Beyond the gates a market place could be observed. Looking skyward two moons hung like pale ghosts, one a cresent the other nearly full.

Melinda grinned. "Cool! I'll remember that." The fire lizard circled around, and then flapped by Alec.

As soon as she sees the gate, her jaw drops. "I... holy hell, Alec. This is where you live? It's beautiful!" she whispers. But the moons make her shiver slightly. Hadn't it been like a cresent when the battle happened?

"Wait until you see the inside," Alec said with a grin. Trey had popped up and flew around bronze fledgling, teasing him a little.

The gate gaurds stiffened to attention when they saw Alec, though their expressions was one of wary respect. They gave Mel a glance over, but only because she was with Alec did they not say anything.

Flap flap flap! Oh, cool, another one! Sisu chases after him. "I can't wait. Can I bring something back for my friends?" she asks, cheerful. Melinda looks up at the guards, eyes wide. Cool.

"How long has it been here?" she asks so only Alec can hear.

[identity profile] elementwizard.livejournal.com 2006-06-14 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sure, we can stop off in the marketplace when we're done," Alec said easily as he tried to dredge up his history lessons, of which he paid little attention to. Scholastically inclined he was not as a child. "We've been here... five - six hundred years? Kips hasn't decided how long after the destruction of Pentarch the new city was built yet, so that's a fuzzy area."

The marketplace was a huge area, taking up about a fourth of the city's area. Where Alec and Mel rode were booths set up by travelers who came to the city hoping to sell to the city inhabitants. Further beyond the temporary booths were more permant ones that looked like shops. Just about everything was for sale, from jewlery and weapons to food and cloth for clothing.

In the distance a building that looked like a blue funnel with its wide end open to the sky sat. To the left of them the market place petered out into buildings of industry, smoke could be seen coming from forges, and a few buildings crept into the mountain side.

Can her eyes get any bigger? Apparently. Her jaw goes wide open- it's beautiful. "Oh, wow. I'm going to get stuff for Courtney and Schreber..." This was cool. Very fun. "The buildings on the moutain side- is that where the rich people live, or something?"

[identity profile] elementwizard.livejournal.com 2006-06-14 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Alec drew his horse back so that he was riding by Mel. "No, they live out over there," he pointed to his right. At the edges of the market place, almost out of sight were buildings that looked like apartments and as the eye traveled further back walls appeared and the tops of houses. No house was over three stories tall. In fact no building was over three stories, except the one funnel shaped building and another one that was rather square and rounded, partially hidden by the funnel shaped building. "The city is divided into four quarters; urban, marketplace, university and homes. It's based on the design of Pentarch."

"Oh, okay." She's amazed by it all. Pretty, so pretty. Sisu flapped happily around, and then landed on Melinda.

((Can we make a new thread? It's getting small.))

Laughing to himself, Alec turned off the main road and down a smaller road that led to stables. "We're gonna hafta walk from here. Don't have a stable where we're going."

((Sure. Start whenever.))
