summary Alexander thinks about mortality.
Alexander watched Nick reading over the top of his own book. The boy was bent over the book, a studious look on his face, leaning up against Alexander's side. Occasionally he would give Nick a kiss on the top of his head or nuzzle him. His mind drifted away from his book to Orion.
The angel was grieving over his mortal lover, clutched to his gravestone, not moving, caught in grief.
He wondered how he would react when Nick grew old and died. It had been so long since he had fallen in love. Part of him wanted to keep Nick just the way he was, forever. But he knew that road was dangerous. Insanity, resentment, hatred led down the road of keeping a mortal young forever. Never being allowed to grow up and mature. Besides, he wanted to see what Nick would be like when he was older. He wanted to see the boy grow up, mature into a man.
And if that meant watching him grow old and die... well..
He had time yet before that.
