It's a type of metal. Very strong.

Adamantine dragons are usually good dragons. You can tell because they're metallic. Evil dragons tend to be chromatic. But that varies depending on the world you go to. Red dragons are the strongest and most dangerous of the chromatic. Gold dragons are the strongest and most powerful of the metallic.
