((He's Captain Hook. Evil, Gentleman, and attracted to shiny objects. What's not to love? Alec likes him because he's a pirate and that's cool. The elder Troven, since he wishes to weigh in here, likes the Captain because they're both curmudgeonly men and the conversations.
