Title Sari's little problem. Pt. 1
Characters Alec (25) Sari

It was a red handprint.
Small, baby sized, and red.
Right on the crib.
Puzzled Alec looked around for anything red that could have made the handprint. He checked Sari's hands for red paint on them, but they were clean. He could find nothing that made a red handprint.
And then he saw the polka dotted one on his shirt... where Sari had been grabbing it.

"I found her!" Verra called out, up the stairs. Alec rushed to the top and looked down.
"Where was she?"
"On the couch. She's still asleep."
He came down the stairs, brushing hair out of his eyes. "That's the third time this week... the suppression field isn't working."
"There's always..." Verra began, but trailed off under her husband's glower.
"We are not using that. She's too young. It could kill her."
"Then we need to find some other way."

It had been a week since he had given up his powers. And in that week there had been no new handprints and no more random teleportings. He lay on the couch, Sari asleep on his stomach. Lightly he brushed her fine hair, fingers tracing her pointed ears.
Everything was quiet now.
"I know, I may not be the best father in the world," he said softly, "But if it's within my powers, I'll do anything for you. And I promise to keep you as safe as possible, no matter what."
