Canon nazi is one thing. I'm that way in LotR. And if someone in LotR has a speculation that's supported by evidence in the canon, but not specifically written about, and it's logical, then I don't tend to jump all over it. Even in verses which are highly described and well-formed, there are patches which are up to speculation.
In other words, "It's not explicitly stated in canon that it's possible" isn't an extremely good basis to be going nazi on. At least, I think so. Maybe I'm more lenient with the half-way reasonable people after seeing so many people trample canon mercilessly.
